We received a request for estate clearance and household item disposal at a detached house in Kanagawa Ward, Yokohama.
The house had been home to the client’s older brother.
On the day of the work, his younger sister and nephew were present.
Because the client had not lived in the house herself, there were some things she did not know, such as where things were kept and whether there were any items they wished to keep.

For this reason, for clients who wish to be present, we sometimes keep chairs, sofas, and other items scheduled for disposal until the very end, so that they can sit down and wait comfortably.
At an estate clearance site, even things that are simply items to be removed for us are precious memories for the client.
As the work progresses, we sometimes hear comments such as:
“I didn’t know we had something like this.”
“I used to use this.”
“My brother loved things like this.”
And while we are sorting through belongings, we sometimes find items that the family had been searching for, or keepsakes that they could not find on their own.
At such times, stories of the past naturally begin to unfold as we work, and our staff sometimes listen along with them.
Estate clearance does not end with carrying things out.
It is work that also touches on the time the family spent in that place and their memories of a loved one.
As in this case, when the client was present from start to finish and we had carried out all the belongings from a house filled with many household items, we received a variety of kind words from the client.
Hearing those words is one of the joys of our work in estate clearance.
