Sayonara Sales in Japan: How to Smartly Sell Your Belongings Before Leaving — and What to Do with Unsold Items
—————————————————
If you’re a foreign resident in Japan, you’ve probably heard the term “Sayonara Sale.” It’s a popular way for expats who are preparing to return home or relocate to quickly sell off their household belongings.
—————————————————
In this article, we’ll also explain what to do with items that simply don’t sell.
—————————————————
A Sayonara Sale is essentially a moving sale. When people leave Japan, large items such as furniture and home appliances are often too expensive to ship overseas. Instead of paying high disposal fees, many choose to sell these items locally—often at very low prices.
—————————————————
Typical items include:
beds, sofas, tables, refrigerators, washing machines, kitchen appliances, bicycles, cookware, dishes, home décor, daily necessities, as well as baby and children’s items.
—————————————————
Many transactions take place through Facebook groups (try searching for “Tokyo Sayonara Sale”), where activity tends to be especially high.
—————————————————
What Happens to Unsold Items?
—————————————————
Even if your Sayonara Sale is successful, it’s very common for some items—especially large furniture or older appliances—to remain unsold.
—————————————————
In reality, disposing of bulky waste (“sodai gomi”) in Japan is not always simple. It requires reservations, fees, and time. For many foreign residents, arranging all of this before their departure date can be difficult.
—————————————————
A Simple Solution 👉 Leave It to the Professionals
—————————————————
If you have items that didn’t sell, the easiest solution is to hire a professional disposal service.

👉 For fast, reliable, and hassle-free bulky waste removal, contact Nishida Service.

For the removal, recovery, and disposal of solar panels, trust Nishida Service!

Hello! This is Nishida Service. In recent years, we have seen a rapid increase in inquiries regarding solar panels.

Starting from April 2025, Tokyo will introduce a new system requiring the installation of solar power systems for new residential buildings. This policy is expected to lead to a continued rise in the installation of solar panels.

However, one aspect that is often overlooked is what to do when these panels are no longer needed—specifically, how to safely remove, recover, and dispose of them.

Solar panels are not treated as general bulky waste due to their complex composition. They are made from composite materials, such as glass and metal, and each panel weighs approximately 20 kilograms. Additionally, they are fragile and require careful handling to prevent breakage.

As a result, many local municipalities do not include solar panels in their waste collection services, and residents often find it difficult to dispose of them as oversized waste. This can lead to situations where people are unsure of how to properly dispose of or recycle their solar panels.

In reality, the options for disposing of solar panels are limited. While it is possible to contact the installation companies or manufacturers for assistance, there are many cases—especially with panels made in China—where support is unavailable or the manufacturer cannot be reached.

Additionally, when treating solar panels as industrial waste, it is necessary to entrust the processing to a licensed waste management company.

Given these circumstances, hiring a specialized contractor who can handle everything from removal and transportation to collection and disposal has become the most practical and popular choice.

Handling solar panels improperly can pose significant safety hazards. Hiring unlicensed contractors, improper disposal such as illegal dumping, or attempting to forcibly remove panels from roofs can lead to accidents and legal issues.

Especially for panels installed on roofs, there are risks of falling or electric shock, and damage can potentially affect the surrounding area. Therefore, it is essential to rely on professionals with the specialized knowledge and experience to ensure safe and proper handling.

Solar panels also have a finite lifespan. Typically, they last around 20 to 30 years; however, they do not suddenly become unusable. Over time, their energy generation efficiency gradually declines.

Additionally, the lifespan of the power conditioner is approximately 10 to 15 years. Factors such as the end of the feed-in tariff period and decreasing power output often lead many to consider removal or replacement within roughly 10 to 15 years.

Even unused solar panels cannot be considered entirely safe. Over time, they can deteriorate, leading to damage or falling due to loose mounting. Issues with wiring can also arise, and in some cases, these problems may cause leaks.

In other words, even panels that are no longer in use can pose safety hazards. If left unattended, the situation can worsen, making repairs more difficult. Therefore, it is important to seek professional advice promptly to address these concerns early.

Nishida Service provides comprehensive support for the removal, transportation, collection, and proper disposal of solar panels. We are flexible in responding to inquiries such as “I want to remove panels still attached to the roof,” “I want to dispose of the removed panels,” or “Manufacturers are unable or unwilling to assist.” We prioritize safety and ensure thorough work tailored to each site’s specific conditions.

As solar panels continue to become more widespread, the timing for aging, replacement, removal, and disposal will inevitably arrive. It is expected that the number of people facing disposal issues will increase significantly in the future.

Solar panels are often more challenging to dispose of than they are to install. Therefore, choosing a reputable and experienced contractor is crucial.

At Nishida Service, we draw on years of on-site experience to carefully address each individual inquiry. If you are facing difficulties with the removal, recovery, or disposal of solar panels, please do not hesitate to contact us for assistance.

Trust us for the collection of imported wooden crates, crates, and packing wooden boxes!

Filed under: Oversized garbage,Business waste — nishida @ 12:21 PM

Hello! After importing products from overseas, we’ve been receiving many inquiries such as “We are having trouble disposing of imported wooden crates,” “We would like to request crate collection,” and “We want to remove packing wooden boxes.”

At Nishida Service, we are frequently asked to collect imported wooden crates, crates, packing wooden boxes, wooden packing crates, and transportation wooden boxes.

Imported wooden crates and boxes are sturdy wooden containers used to safely transport valuable products from overseas. To protect precision equipment, heavy items, or large products, these crates often incorporate thick panels or plywood.

As a result, once the items are removed, many people find them difficult to dispose of, leading to an increasing number of requests for professional collection services for imported wooden crates.

In particular, packing wooden boxes and transportation wooden crates are not easily foldable. They are often securely fastened with nails or screws, making them difficult to move in their current state, and in some cases, disassembly may be required.

At Nishida Service, we carefully handle the collection of these imported wooden crates, boxes, packing wooden boxes, wooden packing crates, and transport wooden boxes. We can efficiently collect large imported wooden crates, dispose of heavy crates, and, if necessary, assist with removing wooden packing boxes after unpacking, tailoring our services to your specific situation.

When considering the collection of transportation wooden boxes, please feel free to contact Nishida Service.
We handle each case with care and dedication, providing attentive and heartfelt assistance.

President Nishida’s “Policy and Goals” for 2026

Filed under: News — nishida @ 11:51 AM

◆”Policy and Goals”

This year, I am turning 50 years old. Moving forward, I believe it is no longer enough to proceed solely based on youth, momentum, or mere ideas. Instead, as the president, I feel it is increasingly important to clearly articulate and uphold the company’s core philosophy, and to base our management firmly on that foundation.

I believe that a manager’s role is not just to focus on immediate matters, but to build a company that can sustain itself for the next 5 or 10 years. Of course, enhancing sales, improving the quality of services, and maintaining stable management are essential. In addition, I believe that developing human resources and engaging in new business ventures are indispensable for the company’s future growth.

To achieve this, the “company philosophy” is essential. Having a clear philosophy provides a foundation to return to when facing difficult decisions, making it less likely to lose direction.

For me personally, the most important aspect of managing the company is being able to genuinely feel a sense of “growth” and “change.” As a leader, I can perceive the company’s progress and development through various indicators such as increased sales, a growing client base, the number of trucks, and the size of the workforce.

However, I believe that for each employee, simply performing daily tasks may not always give them a sense of purpose or fulfillment in continuing to work here.

That is why I see it as my responsibility to create an environment where individuals can set their own goals and clearly feel their personal growth. Moving forward, I want our company to share common objectives and foster an organization where everyone can grow together.

We will clearly articulate this philosophy as part of Nishida Service’s guiding principles.

“Personal growth equals company growth” — this will be our fundamental philosophy and guiding principle.

◆”Vision for 2026″

Our vision for 2026 is: “Personal Growth = Company Growth, Leading to Social Contribution and Salary Increases.”

When each individual grows, it generates benefits for the company. I believe that sales are not just numbers; they are the result of being supported and needed by our customers, and of contributing to society.

Accumulating these efforts leads to the expansion of employment, wage increases, and investment in facilities, which ultimately contribute to society as a whole.

The growth of a company cannot be achieved by the efforts of any one individual alone. It is only through the growth of each and every employee that the company can move forward.

Therefore, I believe in valuing personal growth and aim to foster management that connects individual development with the overall growth of the company.

◆”Hisao Nishida’s Goals”

I believe that, as a leader, I must continue to grow and develop further. I want to maintain a learning attitude so that I can remain an inspiring and effective leader even at 60 years old.

My immediate goal is to steadily learn foundational topics such as bookkeeping and management, strengthening the very base of our management practices.

Additionally, I believe that the efforts of our sales team—who invest time and money and put their bodies on the line to secure business—should never be wasted. Their dedication is vital to the company’s success, and I am committed to supporting and valuing their efforts.

The work that our sales team has secured is not just a matter of revenue; it also reflects the pride of the company. Therefore, I believe we should face these opportunities earnestly and not decline them lightly.

Furthermore, we will place even greater emphasis on human resource development. Recruiting and training require time and effort, but I believe that dedicating ourselves to these efforts will be the foundation of the company’s future strength.

The growth of our people is, above all, the greatest asset the company possesses.

We will also gradually begin exploring new business opportunities. Currently, our operations are busy, and we are generating profits, so I do not believe our current approach is wrong.

However, rather than relying solely on existing work, I want us to consider new services and new business ventures, planting seeds for the next era.

Moving forward, Nishida Service will continue to value our daily work, while transforming each individual’s growth into the company’s strength, progressing toward a brighter future.

Our goal is to continue striving for services that satisfy our customers, while also creating a company where employees can feel their growth and development. Additionally, we aim to remain a company that is needed and valued by society.

We will continue to take steady steps forward in this pursuit.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Nishida Service.

We also handle the disposal of vending machines!

Filed under: Case Study & News,Home appliance disposal,Industrial waste — nishida @ 12:26 PM

Recently, we received an inquiry from a pachinko parlor in Hadano City, Kanagawa Prefecture, regarding the removal of a cigarette vending machine.

It is common for store to face challenges when replacing equipment or renovating the premises, especially when it comes to deciding how to dispose of existing vending machines.

In particular, cigarette vending machines are quite different from standard fixtures or household appliances, due to their size and weight, making them difficult to move easily. As a result, they are sometimes left unattended on-site.

Many people assume that contacting the manufacturer will enable them to have the vending machine picked up, but in reality, manufacturers often do not handle the removal of such machines.

This is because the machine may be old, the service support period has already ended, or the removal is not included in the installation contract. Additionally, since vending machines are quite heavy, it is necessary to check the logistics of removal routes and ensure safety measures are in place. As a result, it is not uncommon to be informed that the machine cannot be taken back.

As a result, store owners are often required to find their own disposal methods, which can lead to concerns such as:

“It’s too heavy to move”
“We don’t know whom to ask for assistance”
“We want to dispose of it quickly to avoid disrupting business hours”

Vending machines are among the equipment that frequently present these challenges.

At Nishida Service, we evaluate each site’s situation and provide support for such items, even when it is difficult to find a suitable disposal solution.

Many pieces of equipment used in stores are large and heavy, so it is important to proceed carefully, considering the surrounding environment and planning a smooth removal process.

In particular, vending machines are often heavier than they appear, and depending on their installation location, it is necessary to check factors such as the width of doorways, the condition of the flooring, and the designated route for removal.

Forcing the equipment to move can potentially damage floors or walls, and may even lead to unexpected accidents. Therefore, careful handling is essential.

If you have concerns such as:

“Will they be able to collect this?”
“There are multiple units, and they are quite heavy—will it be okay?”
“Since it’s equipment inside the store, I want to carry out the removal as smoothly as possible”

At Nishida Service, we frequently handle consultation cases involving items that are generally difficult to dispose of, such as cigarette vending machines.

We approach each case with care and attention to detail, aiming to provide reliable and  safe and dependable service  you can trust. Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns — we are here to help!

Removal of the company’s office due to unpaid rent and loss of contact.

Hello, this is Nishida Service. Today, we would like to introduce the removal of remaining items from an office, requested by a building owner in Aoba Ward, Yokohama City.

The consultation was regarding the office of a remodeling company that was occupying the third floor of the building owned by the owner.

After prolonged non-payment of rent, contact with the tenant was lost, and it appears that desks, office supplies, and other belongings were left inside the office as they were. Facing this sudden situation, the owner was greatly troubled.

 ◇◇◇

The belongings left inside the office included desks, office equipment, and other items that were used for business operations, all remaining as they were. The volume of items was greater than it appeared, making it difficult to determine where to begin. Moreover, leaving the belongings as they were was affecting building management and preventing the property from being introduced to new tenants. For the owner, these issues posed an unexpectedly significant burden.

In such consultations, simply collecting the belongings is not enough. It’s important to understand the owner’s current situation, the difficulties they are facing, and their desired approach moving forward. Addressing these aspects thoroughly is essential. The superficial issue of items remaining inside the office is often rooted in deeper concerns, such as management anxiety, time burdens, and emotional stress.

Therefore, beyond the removal work itself, the way we respond during consultations, provide clear explanations, and establish trust are equally important. Ensuring that the owner feels confident and comfortable to entrust us with the task is a key part of our service.

In particular, office removal work requires considerations that differ from those involved in residential junk collection. Desks, storage furniture, and office supplies may not be individually special items, but when accumulated, they can amount to a significant volume. Additionally, during the removal process within the building, careful attention must be paid to walls, floors, common areas, and passageways to prevent any damage.

To avoid placing unnecessary burden on the building and to ensure the owner feels confident and reassured, it is essential to proceed with care and consideration for the surroundings, handling the task meticulously and politely.

At Nishida Service, even when handling the removal of remaining office belongings, we proceed carefully by thoroughly assessing the situation on-site. Our approach goes beyond simply removing items; we also consider how to support the owner in taking the next step smoothly afterward.

In more complex cases, being able to consult calmly, ensuring clear communication, and working with integrity are essential to providing peace of mind and building trust.

Being chosen by you among many service providers and receiving such high praise for our response has been a great encouragement for us. Moving forward, we will continue to focus not only on the removal work itself but also on addressing the underlying concerns, so that you can feel confident and comfortable consulting us at any time.

If you are experiencing issues with office remaining belongings removal, post-tenant move-out cleaning, or junk collection, please feel free to contact Nishida Service.

Even in complex situations, we will listen carefully to your circumstances and provide clear, easy-to-understand guidance. For those seeking a trustworthy and reliable contractor, Nishida Service is committed to responding with honesty and integrity.
